Meeting with the UNDP Regional Bureau Director

According to МЗС: On March 30, Ukraine's Deputy Foreign Minister Maryana Betsa met with Ivana Živković, the Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Bureau for Europe and the CIS. The meeting, held during Živković's working visit to Ukraine, focused on the country's recovery, energy resilience, and funding for UNDP operations. This high-level engagement underscores the critical partnership between Ukraine and the UNDP in rebuilding the nation.

The UNDP has directed more than $1 billion in assistance for Ukraine's recovery and development since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion. Deputy Minister Betsa highlighted the significance of this support, stating:

'The volume of assistance directed by the Programme to Ukraine's recovery and development, which is over $1 billion USD, is a clear testament to the effectiveness of your work and the trust of our partners. We particularly value UNDP's contribution to strengthening Ukraine's energy resilience, the rehabilitation and reintegration of veterans, and efforts in humanitarian demining.' - Maryana Betsa

Future Cooperation and Next Steps

The discussions also covered future collaboration on restoring Ukraine's power generation capacity, especially in preparation for the upcoming autumn-winter period. Agreements were reached on further steps to ensure adequate donor funding for the UNDP's operational activities in Ukraine. This international support is vital for the country's stability and development as it continues to face immense challenges. The talks resulted in concrete plans for joint efforts to secure the necessary resources.

The substantial financial aid from the UNDP reflects strong international backing for Ukraine's post-war reconstruction. The specific agreements on energy resilience are particularly crucial, given the severe strain on the country's infrastructure.

  • Implementing these joint initiatives is expected to help stabilize the nation's energy sector.
  • Supporting socio-economic development across the country remains a top priority.

In addition to the substantial financial support for recovery, the UNDP is also actively involved in addressing food security challenges in Ukraine. Recent discussions have highlighted the importance of food assistance initiatives and reforms in school nutrition, which are crucial for the well-being of the population during this critical period. These efforts complement the ongoing recovery strategies and demonstrate the multifaceted approach needed for Ukraine's long-term stability.
