This decline coincides with widespread public criticism of his immigration policy and follows national protests triggered by a recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation. During that operation, 37-year-old US citizen Renee Nicole Good was killed.

The poll, conducted from January 23 to 25, found that approval for Trump's immigration policy stands at 39%, while 53% of Americans disapprove. This marks a significant shift from February 2024, when 50% approved and 41% disapproved. Trump's overall approval rating has dropped from 41% in a poll taken January 12-13 to the current 38%, the lowest point of his term.

Public Opinion on Immigration Enforcement

The study further revealed that:

• 58% of respondents believe ICE agents went too far in their actions,
• 12% believe they did not overstep their authority,
• Only 26% of respondents consider the agents' actions appropriate.

Views are sharply divided along partisan lines: 90% of Democrats believe the agents went too far, compared to just 20% of Republicans. Among independent voters, 60% also viewed ICE's actions as excessive.

The special operation, which began on January 22 in the state of Maine, sparked protests in over 10 cities across the country, highlighting the growing tension surrounding Trump's immigration agenda. Immigration remains a deeply polarizing issue in American politics, often defining political campaigns. Despite this climate, President Trump won the 2024 presidential election, yet immigration continues to command significant public and political attention.

This situation underscores a widening divide in public attitudes toward immigration policy, which is likely to influence the nation's political climate.
