Rapper Drake lost $1 million again by betting on McGregor's victory
Canadian rapper Drake has suffered another significant loss in sports betting. The artist placed one million dollars on Conor McGregor's victory in the main fight of UFC 329, however, the Irishman lost to Max Holloway in the first round. NV reports this with reference to the tournament results.
McGregor lost to Holloway after returning to the UFC
On the night of July 13, Conor McGregor had his first professional fight after almost a five-year hiatus.
His opponent was former UFC featherweight champion and ex-holder of the BMF title Max Holloway.
The fight ended prematurely in the first round. The bout was stopped after McGregor suffered a leg injury, and Holloway was awarded the victory by technical knockout.
For the 37-year-old Irishman, this is already his third consecutive defeat in the UFC and the fourth in his last five fights. McGregor last won in January 2020 when he defeated Donald Cerrone by knockout.
Drake lost a million dollars betting on McGregor
Before the fight, Drake placed one million dollars on McGregor's victory.
In the event of the Irish fighter's success, the rapper could have earned about 1.85 million dollars in profit. However, after McGregor's early defeat, the bet turned out to be a losing one.
There has long been a joking concept among fans called the "Drake Curse." This refers to situations where an athlete or team that the musician publicly bets on or supports ends up losing.
It should be reminded that in 2024 McGregor was also supposed to return to the octagon for a fight against Michael Chandler, but that fight was canceled due to an injury sustained during training.
