Anti-Drone Nets Now Cover Putin’s Valdai Residence
New Security Measures in the Valdai District
According to Главком: In Russia’s Novgorod Oblast, the Valdai District has seen the installation of anti-drone nets above truck parking areas. These protective structures are located 9 kilometers from Vladimir Putin’s official country residence and are stretched over heavy trucks parked along the M-10 'Rossiya' federal highway near the town of Valdai. Previously, no such barriers existed in this area, and archival images from Yandex Maps as well as 2025 satellite photos from Google Maps show no trace of these installations.
The deployment of these anti-drone nets began after a June 1, 2025 operation by Ukrainian special services, code-named 'Pavutyna' (Web). In addition, seven stationary towers have been built around the Valdai residence, each equipped with Pantsir-S1 surface-to-air missile and gun systems. These moves are part of a broader effort to tighten security at key sites.
Moscow’s Air Defense Buildup
Meanwhile, in Moscow, new Pantsir-SMD-E air defense systems have been spotted on the rooftops of civilian buildings. Over the course of 2025, more than 40 new Pantsir-S1 systems have been deployed around the Russian capital. Since 2023, the total number of additional air defense complexes protecting Moscow has exceeded 100 units. These actions highlight Russia’s growing focus on bolstering its defensive capabilities in response to threats emerging from modern conflicts.
The recent developments in Russia-ranging from anti-drone nets to advanced air defense systems-underscore an increased emphasis on protecting strategic assets. Given the tense regional situation, these measures can be seen as a direct response to new challenges posed by intensified military operations and aerial threats. Monitoring further developments will be crucial, as they may have implications not only for Russia but also for neighboring countries.
As Russia enhances its defensive measures, questions about the reliability of its air defense systems have started to emerge. This scrutiny reflects a growing concern among analysts and propagandists alike regarding the effectiveness of Moscow's military preparedness in the face of evolving threats.
