Rheinmetall to launch shell production in Ukraine: when will the plant start operations

According to glavcom.ua: The German defense concern, Rheinmetall, is preparing to launch artillery shell production in Ukraine in 2026. It is planned to start with the production of 155mm shells, but difficulties have arisen. The company's CEO identified the Ukrainian demand for increased production volumes. However, stable operations and funding are necessary to achieve the set goals.

'To achieve such production volumes, one to two years of stable operation and adequate funding are needed,' the CEO explained.

Bureaucratic delays and the need for more funding are becoming obstacles to reaching an agreement on artillery shell production. However, other international companies are also facing similar challenges, but government support can help realize projects in Ukraine.

Challenges and Prospects

Rheinmetall is also starting construction of a plant in Wetzlar to manufacture parts for the F-35 bomber and is planning a strategic step in artillery shell production in Ukraine. With additional investments and overcoming bureaucratic obstacles, these projects could be successful.
