Eagle Owl Sighting in Khotyn National Park

According to Мін. Економіки: A camera trap at Khotyn National Nature Park in Ukraine has captured footage of an eagle owl family listed in the country's Red Book of endangered species. Both adult birds and their young, already capable of flight but still staying close to their parents, appear in the images.

The Eurasian eagle owl (Bubo bubo) is Ukraine's largest owl species, with a wingspan reaching up to 180 centimeters. Only around 200 pairs of these birds remain in Ukraine, making them highly vulnerable to extinction. Encounters with eagle owls in the wild are critical for conservation efforts and for understanding the broader ecosystem.

Why Protecting Eagle Owls Matters

This event highlights the urgent need to preserve natural habitats and protect rare bird species like the eagle owl. With their numbers continuing to decline, monitoring their behavior and breeding patterns can serve as a vital step in safeguarding their future.

  • Research on eagle owl behavior helps improve environmental protection programs.
  • Preserving biodiversity in Ukraine remains a key priority for ecological initiatives.
