Temperatures drop to -24 degrees in Ukraine
Україна готується до небувалого холоду: з 30 січня температура впаде до -24°C

Weather Forecast for Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: Meteorologist Natalia Didenko has issued a warning of a severe cold snap set to hit Ukraine starting January 30. Following a thaw on January 29, which will bring wet snow and rain across the country, a powerful anticyclone will move in, bringing temperatures as low as -24°C. The coldest period is forecast for February 1-3, when overnight lows could reach between -15°C and -24°C.

January 29 will be the last relatively warm day before the freeze. On that day, temperatures in southern Ukraine will rise to +4°C to +7°C, and in Crimea may reach +14°C. However, from January 30, cold air will begin advancing from the north, causing a sharp temperature drop. The cold will spread across almost all of Ukraine by January 31 and February 1.

Expected Frost and Its Impact

Forecasts indicate the most challenging period will be in early February, with the peak of the frost occurring on these dates. In northern parts of Ukraine, temperatures could even fall below -24°C.

'Starting January 30, a powerful anticyclone will begin to gradually push out and displace the Atlantic moisture and warm air' - Natalia Didenko.

This information is critical for Ukrainian residents, as the sudden freeze could impact daily life, transportation, and energy systems. Citizens should prepare for the cold weather by securing necessary items for heating and maintaining comfort in low temperatures. In connection with this, local authorities may also take measures to ensure public safety during the severe frosts. Such extreme winter conditions are not uncommon for the region, but rapid shifts following a thaw require heightened public awareness.
