Russia attacked Ukraine's energy sector during frost: nearly 1100 drones and over 890 bombs

Drone attack on Ukraine's energy sector
В умовах зимових холодів Україна відзначила спроби Росії завдати шкоди енергетичній інфраструктурі, використовуючи тисячі безпілотників та бомб.

The situation in Ukraine's energy sector

According to Главком: Last week was difficult for Ukrainian energy due to Russian attacks during extreme frosts. The temperature in Ukraine dropped to -20°C in some regions, complicating the situation with energy supply. During this time, Russia launched nearly 1100 strike drones and used over 890 guided aviation bombs, inflicting significant damage on the country's energy infrastructure.

The combined strike by Russian forces occurred on the night of January 9, when the enemy targeted all capital heat power plants (TPPs) and dozens of key substations. As a result of these attacks, more than 50 missiles of various types were also launched. Such actions by Russian troops caused outrage, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noting that this is a conscious, cynical Russian terror specifically against the people.

This situation highlights the critical importance of protecting energy facilities and the need for international support to ensure energy security in wartime conditions.

The importance of international support

Attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure during winter frosts threaten not only the stability of electricity supply but also the safety of the population. The importance of international support in this situation is becoming increasingly evident, as Ukraine faces aggression aimed at breaking the morale and economic stability of the country.

Appropriate actions by the international community can play a crucial role in countering these challenges.
