Energy Workers Injured in Russian Strike on Ukraine's Power Grid
Strike on Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure
According to Главком: On the night of June 2, Russia launched a large-scale combined attack targeting Ukraine's energy and oil-and-gas infrastructure. The assault damaged facilities in Kyiv and seven other regions, causing temporary power outages for consumers in those areas.
Affected Regions
Power disruptions were reported in:
- Kyiv
- Kyiv region
- Dnipropetrovsk region
- Donetsk region
- Zaporizhzhia region
- Sumy region
- Kharkiv region
- Cherkasy region
In Kyiv, a production site and related infrastructure at one energy company were particularly hard hit. Two power workers sustained injuries in the attack and were hospitalized. Oil-and-gas sector facilities also suffered infrastructure damage, though no injuries were reported among their staff.
Ukraine's Energy Ministry stated that repair crews are working around the clock in an intensified effort to restore electricity to all customers. No power restrictions are forecast for June 2. However, the ministry advises shifting heavy energy use to daytime hours between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and, where possible, conserving electricity during evening hours from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This will help reduce strain on the grid.
The situation remains under control, and the ministry urges consumers to monitor official updates from their local distribution system operators for any changes in power supply.
This attack is part of Russia's ongoing campaign to destabilize Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
Coordinating efforts between government agencies and consumers is a critical part of the response to such threats, helping to minimize the impact on the population. Restoring infrastructure and ensuring a reliable power supply remain top priorities for Ukrainian energy workers during this challenging period.
