Ukraine Hit by Large-Scale Drone Assault

According to ХВИЛЯ: On March 24, Russian forces launched a major drone attack targeting western and central regions of Ukraine. The city of Lviv suffered the most significant damage, with strikes hitting residential buildings and its historic center. Fires broke out in apartment buildings on Soborna Square, Brativ Rohatyntsiv Street, and Chervonoii Kalyny Street. In the village of Sernyky within the Bibrka community, falling debris ignited a private house.

Preliminary reports indicate seven people were injured. Among them, a 51-year-old woman sustained a mine-explosive injury to her lower limbs and was taken to the hospital by police officers. Another patient sought treatment independently at a trauma center. One person is reported to be in serious condition. In central Lviv, UNESCO World Heritage sites were damaged. This attack on a city far from the front lines underscores the widespread nature of the threat to Ukrainian civilians.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi reported another strike by an enemy drone on a residential building on Sykhiv, on Chervonoii Kalyny Avenue.

Tram services on routes No.1, No.2, No.3, No.8, and No.9 have been suspended in Lviv. Several bus routes are operating on detours via Liberty Avenue, Mickiewicz Square, and Pidvalna Street due to the ongoing emergency response.

Strikes Reported in Other Cities

The assault extended to other urban centers. In Ivano-Frankivsk, air defenses engaged a Russian drone. Explosions were recorded in Ternopil, while the air raid alert in Vinnytsia lasted nearly three and a half hours. Vinnytsia itself came under a concentrated drone attack, with at least one explosion reported.

Vinnytsia Mayor Serhiy Morhunov urged residents to remain in shelters until the all-clear was given.

The situation remains tense, with local authorities continuing to monitor developments and respond to threats.

This latest attack signals a continued escalation of the conflict and the persistent danger to Ukraine's civilian population. The targeting of residential areas and cultural heritage sites highlights the severity of the situation and the urgent need for civilian protection. While local authorities are implementing measures to respond to threats and support residents, the high level of regional tension demands sustained attention and action from the government and international partners.

The recent drone assault on Lviv is part of a larger trend of escalating attacks across Ukraine. As air raid sirens blared and explosions were reported in various cities, the situation highlights the ongoing threat to civilian safety.
