Russia prepares illegal connection of Zaporizhzhia NPP: a threat to nuclear safety
Problems with electricity supply continue at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant due to the actions of Russia. The occupiers plan to connect the station to their energy grid, and this is already the tenth blackout, this time lasting for the fourth day, 'Glavkom' reports citing Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
Running 200 km of power lines to connect the ZNPP to the Russian energy system creates serious threats and risks. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has already described the situation as 'deeply concerning', and Sybiha emphasized the irresponsibility of Russia's actions and the danger of restarting the station.
Due to the power outage, the Zaporizhzhia NPP is operating on emergency diesel generators, with all the consequences this entails for the safety of the station. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concern about the risk of a radiation accident due to the actions of the Russian Federation at the Zaporizhzhia NPP at the UN General Assembly.
