Ukrainian Forces Repel 17 Russian Assaults in Kharkiv Border Region
Frontline Situation in the Kharkiv Sector
According to Главком: Over the past day, Russian military units attempted to breach Ukraine's state border in the Kharkiv region, launching assaults on Ukrainian defensive positions near the settlements of Zybyne and Krugle. These engagements occurred along the Southern Slobozhanske axis. According to the Joint Forces Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the enemy's attempts to break through the border and attack these positions were unsuccessful. This area has been a focal point of intense fighting as Russia seeks to stretch Ukrainian defenses.
Ukrainian units actively repelled these incursions, inflicting fire damage on Russian assault groups and ultimately thwarting the attacks. On the Velykoburlukske axis, Russian forces continue to amass troops, while on the Kupiansk axis, occupiers unsuccessfully tried to penetrate Ukrainian defenses near Petropavlivka, Novoplatonivka, and Kurylivka. Fighting also persisted on the Lyman axis, where Ukrainian defenders repelled Russian assaults in the directions of Shyikivka, Stavky, Drobycheve, and Lyman.
Territorial Gains and Operational Summary
In total, Ukrainian forces neutralized 17 separate Russian assaults over the past 24 hours. In a significant strategic development, February 2026 marked the first time since Ukraine's summer 2023 counteroffensive that its defense forces liberated more territory than they ceded. Since the start of 2026, Ukrainian troops have freed approximately 257 square kilometers. Specifically, from February 14 to 20, defense forces achieved a net gain of nearly 33 square kilometers, and from February 21 to 27, they reclaimed roughly 57 square kilometers.
Consequently, while the frontline situation remains tense, Ukrainian forces are demonstrating resilient and active resistance, successfully repelling enemy attacks. The ongoing combat in Kharkiv Oblast underscores the continued intensity of the conflict and a recent escalation in Russian attempts to pressure Ukrainian lines. Despite this, the Ukrainian military has shown a capacity not only for defense but also for making incremental territorial gains. These actions may indicate a strategic shift in Ukraine's military operations, which could influence the broader frontline dynamics and the future maneuvers of both sides in the conflict.
