Attack on Bunge plant in Dnipro
According to Главком: Russian occupiers again attempted to attack the oil plant in Dnipro owned by the American company Bunge. Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga reported that the recent strike severely damaged the facility, emphasizing that Russia systematically attacks American business in Ukraine. According to Sibiga,
“this attack was not a mistake – it was deliberate”
.
The Bunge plant has repeatedly been targeted by Russian attacks. It was noted that as a result of the drone attack on the roads of Dnipro, 300 tons of oil spilled. This indicates serious consequences for a facility that is an important part of the oil market infrastructure in Ukraine. Bunge is registered in Geneva, Switzerland, while its headquarters is located in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
The importance of Bunge for the Ukrainian market
In Ukraine, Bunge owns:
- an oil extraction plant in Dnipro;
- an export port terminal in Mykolaiv;
- three elevators.
Andriy Sibiga also noted that
“Putin's attacks on American business and American interests in Ukraine demonstrate his complete disregard for peaceful efforts”
. These events highlight the threat faced by foreign business in Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict.
Prolonged attacks on foreign enterprises, such as the Bunge plant, indicate an escalation of the conflict and the risks faced by international investors in Ukraine. Given the importance of Bunge to the Ukrainian agricultural sector, these incidents may have long-term consequences for the country's economy, as well as for international relations between the USA and Russia. It remains uncertain how these attacks will affect further investments in Ukrainian infrastructure and business security amid war.
