Russia shelled the Kharkiv Institute with uranium: threat of a radiation disaster
According to glavcom.ua: Russian invaders do not leave the Kharkiv Institute of Physics and Technology in peace. Shelling of the building with uranium, explosions, power outages - this is just part of what the scientists have to face. Due to these attacks, the institute is under threat of a radiation disaster. Ukrainian prosecutors even referred to this as 'ecocide'.
It is noted that five Russian officers have been charged with targeted attacks on the institute. A direct hit could lead to significant radiation contamination. Ukrainian prosecutors qualified this as 'ecocide'.
The threat of radiation contamination has not passed
Scientists are battling the consequences of the attacks. The explosions disrupted the operations of the control room, and the 'Neutron Source' device was hit, seemingly halting operations for a long time. But the scientists do not give up - they continue to do everything possible to avoid a radiation disaster and continue research on thermonuclear energy, despite the everyday threats.
