Severe Humanitarian Emergency Unfolds in Kherson’s Occupied Territories

According to МЗС: Andriy Sybiga, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, has highlighted a dire humanitarian crisis in the temporarily occupied left-bank areas of Kherson region, including the towns of Oleshky, Hola Prystan, Stara Zburivka, and Nova Zburivka. According to Sybiga, Russia is actively obstructing humanitarian aid deliveries, impeding civilian evacuations, and denying access to humanitarian organizations and volunteers. This blockade has triggered a catastrophic humanitarian situation across these localities.

In Oleshky, which had a population of approximately 24,000 before the full-scale invasion, only about 2,000 residents remain, including around 50 children. The city is suffering from prolonged electricity and gas outages. For the past month, essential supplies such as food, medicine, and basic necessities have been completely cut off. Additionally, Russian FPV drones have been targeting and harassing civilians, worsening the already critical conditions. On September 1st, four volunteer vehicles engaged in a humanitarian mission were struck, further escalating tensions.

"Our priority is to rally international pressure to establish a humanitarian corridor for delivering food, medical aid, and evacuating civilians. Russia must be held accountable for deliberately engineering this humanitarian catastrophe in occupied Kherson," said Andriy Sybiga.

Ukraine is actively raising awareness about the Kherson humanitarian crisis at global platforms like the UN Security Council, the OSCE Permanent Council, and the UN General Assembly. On August 20th, Sybiga met in Kyiv with Tom Fletcher, the UN Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs. The International Committee of the Red Cross has expressed readiness to assist with evacuations and aid delivery, but Russian interference continues to obstruct these efforts.
