Assaults on Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro
According to Главком: On April 23, the Russian military targeted railway infrastructure in Kryvyi Rih. While no casualties were reported, the station building sustained damage, including shattered windows and doors. According to Ukrzaliznytsia, the national railway operator,
“fortunately, no one was hurt. A heightened danger alert was issued before the strike, allowing people to take shelter.”
The company further assured that
“all damage will be repaired promptly. We urge everyone to stay vigilant and follow railway staff instructions.”
Destruction in Dnipro
Overnight on April 23, Russian forces attacked Dnipro using drones. The assault caused severe destruction: in a high-rise building in the city center, apartments from the ninth to the sixth floors were completely obliterated. Additionally, water, gas, and electricity services were cut off in the affected building. Damage was recorded at four locations, with at least 13 buildings impacted. Across Dnipro, over 500 windows were shattered.
Among the damaged sites were an exhibition center belonging to the National Union of Artists of Ukraine and a musical instrument store. In response to these events, Dnipro will hold a memorial on April 24 to honor civilians who lost their lives in the strikes on April 16 and 23.
These attacks underscore the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine and its toll on civilian infrastructure. Although the strike on the Kryvyi Rih railway station caused no fatalities, it highlights the persistent danger to the population amid military operations. The assault on Dnipro, meanwhile, demonstrates the severe impact on residential buildings and social infrastructure, necessitating urgent recovery efforts to restore normal life for residents. The planned commemoration reflects the importance of preserving collective memory during wartime.
The recent strikes on Kryvyi Rih and Dnipro are part of a broader pattern of aggression that continues to impact civilians in the region. For instance, another recent attack in the Dnipropetrovsk area resulted in injuries to eight civilians, further highlighting the ongoing risks faced by residents.
