Intensified Russian Assaults on Ukraine

According to Рубрика — Політика: In the span of a week, Russian forces unleashed a massive barrage on Ukraine, deploying:

  • 115 missiles of various types
  • Nearly 1,900 precision-guided aerial bombs
  • More than 3,000 strike drones

These relentless attacks have caused severe damage across multiple regions, prompting President Volodymyr Zelensky to call on the international community to tighten sanctions against Russia.

The bombardment in Komyshuvakha resulted in 55 fatalities, with rescue teams working tirelessly for seven days to manage the aftermath. Russian forces also targeted Komyshuvakha using FPV drones. Energy infrastructure has been heavily damaged, leaving over 600,000 residents in Dnipro and its surrounding areas without power. Kharkiv region has similarly experienced widespread electricity outages. In Zhytomyr, Russian shelling has cut heating to 140 apartment buildings.

President Zelensky’s Response

Zelensky expressed his gratitude to the energy and utility workers who have been laboring around the clock to restore water, electricity, and heating services.

“The cruelty and cynicism are absolute. There was a nighttime strike on the Dnipro region, hitting energy facilities and plunging over 600,000 people into darkness. The situation in Kharkiv remains difficult with numerous power outages across the region,” Zelensky stated.

The president highlighted that Russia’s offensive this week included a significant number of ballistic missiles, many produced in 2023, alongside conventional rockets and drones.

“If the world lacks sufficient missile defense to protect Ukraine’s skies, then the production lines for these missiles must be stopped. We are counting on a robust 22nd EU sanctions package. I thank all partners who are truly supporting us,” Zelensky added.

In October, Ukraine implemented extensive sanctions targeting individuals and companies involved in Russia’s ballistic missile production. The country is also sharing intelligence with its allies about Russian enterprises connected to missile manufacturing, aiming to increase international pressure on Moscow.

This surge in military aggression underscores Russia’s ongoing campaign against Ukraine, with grave humanitarian consequences for civilians. The rising toll of casualties and unprecedented strikes on energy infrastructure demand urgent action both from Ukrainian emergency services and the global community. Strengthening international sanctions remains a key strategy to help Ukraine defend its airspace and counter the persistent aggression.

The recent wave of attacks has not only devastated Ukrainian cities but also significantly impacted the country's energy infrastructure.
