Russian Attacks Target Ukraine’s Energy Infrastructure

According to ХВИЛЯ: Under the cover of night, Russian ballistic missiles struck critical energy facilities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and the Kharkiv region. All three of Kyiv’s city combined heat and power plants (CHPs) were severely damaged, along with energy sites near Kyiv that are essential for supplying power to the capital and central Ukraine. These attacks led to the deaths of three individuals and left 26 others wounded.

Emergency crews have been working since early morning to extinguish fires and clear debris at the impacted locations. Ukrainian Prime Minister Serhiy Koretsky reported,

"Energy workers and rescuers have been on site since dawn, actively combating fires and removing rubble. Specialists have already initiated priority restoration efforts at the targeted facilities."

Damage to Infrastructure and Impact on Civilians

In addition to energy sites, Russian strikes also hit railway infrastructure across five regions, though no casualties were reported among people evacuated from these locations. Koretsky emphasized,

"The enemy also targeted critical infrastructure in Kyiv region responsible for powering the capital and central areas."

The toll from a previous attack on a high-rise building in Kyiv rose to two dead and 25 injured, with a further fatality and one injured reported following a new strike this morning.

"My deepest condolences go to the families and loved ones,"

the Prime Minister added. Repair and recovery operations are ongoing at all affected sites.

These events highlight the grave risks posed by Russian assaults on Ukraine’s vital infrastructure. Damage to energy facilities threatens widespread power outages, which could severely disrupt daily life and the economy. While the government and emergency teams are taking urgent steps to address the aftermath, fully restoring these critical systems will be a complex and resource-intensive challenge amid the ongoing conflict. Such attacks underscore the resilience required by Ukraine’s population and institutions during this turbulent period.

The ongoing assaults on Ukraine's infrastructure have raised significant concerns about civilian safety and the country's resilience. Following recent missile strikes, including a massive attack on Kyiv, the impact on both lives and vital services continues to unfold. As authorities work tirelessly to restore operations, the situation underscores the urgent need for enhanced protective measures against further threats.
