Russia's Recruitment of African Nationals for the Ukraine War

According to Главком: Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha has disclosed that Russia is actively recruiting citizens from African nations to fight in its war against Ukraine. According to his statement, more than 1,780 individuals from the African continent are currently serving in the Russian military. These recruits originate from 36 different African countries, highlighting the broad scope of the Kremlin's efforts. This strategy underscores how the conflict has drawn in foreign combatants from far beyond Europe's borders.

Sybiha explained that the Russian Federation is enticing foreigners to join its armed forces with promises of Russian citizenship. For instance, mercenaries from The Gambia who fought for Russia have reportedly received Russian passports. The minister strongly condemned these actions, warning of their inherent danger and stating,

"Russia is attempting to drag African citizens into death, into war"

In response, Sybiha announced that Ukraine has signed agreements with several countries to launch joint information campaigns. The goal of these initiatives is to prevent fraudulent recruitment practices by Russian operatives.
