Deployment of New 'Upyr-18' Drones

According to Главком: Russia has announced the operational deployment of new 'Upyr-18' attack drones in its war against Ukraine, according to a report by the outlet 'Glavkom' citing the TASS news agency. Russian sources claim these drones are already being used in the Kupiansk and Kramatorsk sectors of the front. This development is part of a broader pattern of Russia introducing new weaponry to the battlefield as the conflict continues.

The unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are reportedly capable of carrying munitions weighing up to 10 kg and can operate at ranges of several dozen kilometers. They can also be utilized to deliver supplies to Russian units on the front line. The manufacturer, 'Uraldronzavod', based in the Sverdlovsk region, has stated plans to ramp up production of these drones. The company previously developed a series of 'Upyr' drones. Russian developers assert the project was created by a private team, not a state-owned defense conglomerate.

Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service has previously warned about new Russian weapon models, indicating an intensification of Russia's efforts. The growing threat posed by the new 'Upyr-18' drones is causing concern among military analysts.

Tactical Impact of the New Drones

The introduction of the 'Upyr-18' drones could significantly alter the tactical situation on the front, as they provide not only strike capabilities but also logistical support for Russian troops. In the context of the protracted war, the strengthening of Russia's arsenal is causing alarm in Ukrainian military circles, which may lead to new strategic decisions by Ukraine.

The constant evolution of military technology on both sides is being observed against the backdrop of intensified combat, underscoring the necessity for Ukraine to adapt its defense strategies.
