Events in Ukraine on April 3

According to Главком: On April 3, the Russian Federation launched a combined attack against Ukraine's critical infrastructure. By 14:00, Ukrainian air defense forces had intercepted and neutralized 541 targets, including 26 missiles and 515 drones. Strikes from 11 missiles and 27 attack drones were recorded at 20 locations, while debris from downed drones fell at 22 other sites. As a result of the shelling, the Kyiv Cardboard and Paper Mill was forced to halt operations. This massive aerial assault represents one of the largest waves of attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure in recent months.

International Negotiations and Other News

On the same day, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held talks with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. The meeting focused on trade-related issues, with Egypt agreeing to no longer accept grain exported by Russia from the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. Zelenskyy stated,

“Egypt is ready to make efforts to achieve a just peace. We agreed that the foreign ministers will be in contact.”

This move aligns with international efforts to isolate Russia's economy and restrict its ability to profit from occupied Ukrainian land.

Separately, reports emerged on April 3 that Iran had shot down an American F-15 fighter jet. U.S. special operations forces managed to locate and rescue one crew member from the aircraft, which was downed over Iran.

In other domestic news, the Lychakiv District Court in Lviv chose a preventive measure for Andriy Trush, an inspector at the Lviv Customs Office, who is suspected of fatally wounding a military service member of the Territorial Recruitment Center. Meanwhile, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) completed its pre-trial investigation into a Russian agent who attempted to assassinate Serhiy Sternenko. The suspect is charged under Articles 111, 115, and 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and faces up to 15 years in prison.

The situation in Ukraine remains tense due to persistent Russian attacks targeting the country's critical infrastructure. At the same time, international negotiations, such as those between Ukraine and Egypt, demonstrate Ukraine's efforts to strengthen its position on the global stage amidst Russian aggression. These events underscore the critical importance of international support for Ukraine during the war and the necessity of countering threats from the enemy.

The recent aerial assault on April 3 follows another significant wave of attacks, as evidenced by the earlier incident where Ukraine faced a massive barrage of over 700 drones on April 1. This escalation highlights the ongoing threats to Ukraine's infrastructure. For more details on that event and its implications, you can read about the major drone attacks on April 1.
