Zaporizhzhia Hit Twice in One Night by Russian Forces, Wounding Civilians
Overnight Strikes on Zaporizhzhia
According to Главком: In the early hours of June 22, Russian forces launched two separate attacks on Zaporizhzhia, targeting private homes and apartment buildings. The first strike occurred around 11:00 p.m. on June 21, leaving a 67-year-old woman with shrapnel wounds to her limbs and a 71-year-old man suffering from acute stress reaction. Shortly after midnight, a second assault using drones destroyed a private house and injured a man. An apartment building was also damaged, with windows blown out and its facade heavily scarred.
Additional Attacks
On June 21, the Russian military used drones to strike a gas station in Zaporizhzhia, with preliminary reports indicating one person was wounded. The previous day, June 20, Russian forces dropped nine aerial bombs on the city. On June 19, shelling injured 10 people, including a police officer. The blasts and debris from these attacks damaged vehicles and infrastructure, and sparked fires inside a logistics operator’s facility.
'Explosions are heard in the regional center. The smoke residents see is the aftermath of an enemy attack,' said Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.
The State Emergency Service reported that 'the blast wave and debris damaged vehicles and infrastructure. Material inside the logistics operator’s building caught fire.' The situation in Zaporizhzhia remains tense, with local residents continuing to endure the consequences of hostile strikes.
These attacks come amid an escalation of hostilities in Ukraine, where cities and critical infrastructure frequently become targets of missile and drone strikes. As a key regional hub, Zaporizhzhia faces constant danger due to its proximity to the front lines, posing serious threats to civilian safety. Local authorities and emergency services are working to respond to the aftermath, but the volatile situation demands heightened vigilance and caution from the population.
The ongoing attacks on Zaporizhzhia highlight the escalating violence in the region, which has seen a significant increase in airstrikes recently. A report detailing multiple air raids resulting in casualties underscores the perilous situation for civilians. As the conflict intensifies, understanding the broader context of these assaults is crucial for grasping the current humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
