Repeated airstrike on Kherson thermal power plant: the station has lost all thermal equipment
Repeated attack on the thermal power plant
According to Рубрика — Суспільство: On the night of August 27, Russian forces struck the Kherson thermal power plant again. This time, four guided aerial bombs were dropped on the facility. Naftogaz reported that the station sustained critical damage: the entire part responsible for heat production is completely destroyed and out of operation. The company emphasized that the target was purely a civilian facility, which is essential for heating a significant part of Kherson.
This is the second strike in two days: the day before, on August 26, the thermal power plant was also attacked with a guided bomb. The station belongs to the Naftogaz group and plays a key role in providing heat to the city. Its destruction threatens the preparations for the heating season.
Civilian population under threat
Russians struck exclusively a civilian facility that heats a significant portion of residential homes in Kherson. There is no military sense in this attack. Its goal is to terrorize the population and deprive tens of thousands of residents of a heat source on the eve of winter.
Sergey Fedorenko, acting head of the board of Naftogaz
Throughout 2026, the Kherson thermal power plant has repeatedly come under attack from Russian forces - in total, several dozen attacks have been recorded. This demonstrates the systemic nature of the threat to both infrastructure and the civilian population of the region.
The destruction of such a strategically important facility can lead to serious disruptions in the supply of heat and electricity, especially with the cold weather approaching. The situation again highlights the necessity for an international response and continued support for Ukraine.
It is important for Russian readers to understand: the Kherson thermal power plant is not a military facility but part of the life support system of a peaceful city.
