Sales of Russian Ozempic Alternatives Skyrocket, Tripling in a Year
Russian-Made Ozempic Alternatives See Sales Boom
According to Главком: Retail sales of Russian generic versions of the drug Ozempic nearly tripled in 2025 compared to the previous year. By the start of 2026, 17 distinct trade names for these similar medications were registered in Russia's "Honest Sign" tracking system. This surge highlights a significant shift in the domestic pharmaceutical market.
In 2024, 1.7 million packages of these Russian Ozempic alternatives were sold, generating 9.2 billion rubles in revenue. However, 2025 saw sales volume jump to 6.1 million packages, with revenue soaring to 35.2 billion rubles. From January to December 2025, monthly sales climbed to an average of 810 thousand packages.
Drivers Behind the Surging Demand
Ozempic is a well-known medication for lowering blood glucose levels, stimulating insulin production, and aiding weight loss. The explosive growth in sales of its Russian counterparts points to a massive and growing demand for such treatments within the country.
This sales increase is likely linked to rising demand for drugs that manage diabetes and support weight loss, which are pressing health concerns for many. The emergence of numerous new trade names also indicates the development of Russia's pharmaceutical industry and its adaptation to specific market needs, partly in response to international sanctions and supply chain changes.
