Russian strikes damaged hundreds of transport units in Kyiv: the largest losses occurred in 2026

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russian attacks have damaged 219 units of public land transport, 44 metro infrastructure facilities, and 84 vehicles of private carriers in Kyiv. The capital's public transport suffered the most losses in 2026. This is reported by LB.ua referring to the responses of the Municipal Transport Service and 'Kyivpastrans'.

How many buses, trams, and trolleybuses were damaged in Kyiv

The losses of public land transport distributed over the years are as follows:

• 2022: 5 buses and 3 trolleybuses;

• 2023: 8 trolleybuses;

• 2024: 1 bus;

• 2025: 56 trams, 4 buses, and 3 trolleybuses;

• 2026: 69 buses and 70 trams.

Thus, only in 2026, Russian strikes damaged 139 units of rolling stock, which is almost two-thirds of all public land transport that suffered from the beginning of the full-scale war.

One of the trolleybuses, damaged in 2022, is not subject to restoration.

After two attacks, dozens of vehicles remain in repair

The transport system of the capital received the most serious damage as a result of two attacks in the summer of 2026.

During one of the shellings, 69 buses were damaged. The vehicles had broken front, side, and rear windows, damaged doors, driver cabins, mirrors, bodies, roofs, seats, and other equipment. As of July 30, 31 buses were restored, while others remained in repair.

Another strike hit the Shevchenko tram depot. There, 70 cars of various types were damaged, including 71-414K, T5B641, K3R-N, K-1, K-1M8, and T-3. At the time of providing the information, 10 trams had been repaired, while the rest were undergoing restoration.

'Kyivpastrans' repairs the damaged rolling stock with its own resources and finances this work with the company's funds.
