Andrii Sybiha Responds to Russian Drone Crash in Moldova

According to Главком: Ukraine’s Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiha, has issued a statement following the crash of a Russian drone in Moldova during Moscow’s latest large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine. The unmanned aircraft crossed the border and exploded in a field near the village of Lopatna. Sybiha called on the international community to ramp up pressure on Russia, emphasizing that this incident clearly illustrates the danger Moscow poses not just to Ukraine, but to the entire region and Europe as a whole.

Recurring Violations of Moldovan Airspace

This is not an isolated event. On May 13, another Russian drone violated Moldova’s airspace, flying over several districts-including the city of Bălți-and remaining in Moldovan skies for at least 23 minutes. By April 2026, Moldova had recorded over fifty airspace breaches since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. During this period, drones or explosive-laden debris have been discovered on Moldovan territory at least nine times.

'Collective pressure on Russia must be intensified so that the Kremlin finally soberly assesses the situation and realizes it will never achieve its goals on the battlefield. The only path for Putin is to end this war.' Andrii Sybiha

Sybiha stressed the critical need for unified international pressure on Russia and expressed solidarity with the people of Moldova, acknowledging their consistent condemnation of Russian aggression.

These incidents involving Russian drones highlight a growing threat that extends well beyond Ukraine, reaching neighboring countries like Moldova. Since the war began, numerous violations of Moldovan airspace have been recorded, raising serious concerns within the international community. Sybiha’s statement not only reflects Ukraine’s position but also serves as a call to action for other nations to jointly confront Russian aggression and ensure regional security.

The recent incident involving a Russian drone underscores a troubling pattern of airspace violations affecting Moldova. In fact, a previous breach saw a drone lingering in Moldovan airspace for 23 minutes, raising alarms about regional security.
