According to Главком: In the early hours of June 3, a Russian attack on a residential high-rise on Tekstylnykiv Avenue in Kherson killed seven people and injured over 60 others. Among the deceased was an 86-year-old woman who stayed on the phone with her grandson until the very end. Her final words were filled with terror as she struggled to escape her burning apartment, but the door had jammed shut.

The elderly woman had a pet dog that was with her during the tragedy. In another entrance of the same building, an elderly couple barricaded themselves on a sixth-floor balcony. Rescuers from the State Emergency Service, together with the couple’s son, evacuated them, and both seniors were hospitalized.

Initially, reports confirmed the death of the 86-year-old woman. Later, the bodies of an 84-year-old man and two women, aged 81 and 70, were discovered. Official figures initially listed six fatalities, but a woman who managed to escape the burning building later died from the combined effects of shock and physical exhaustion. This brought the total death toll on Tekstylnykiv Avenue to seven.

“Today I was running errands and decided to walk past that burned building on Tekstylnykiv Avenue. So much has been written about it, and social media is full of photos, but I had no idea how horrific it really was inside.”
