Kyiv Under Fire: June 15, 2026 Attack
According to Главком: During the night of June 15, 2026, a massive bombardment rocked Kyiv, causing severe damage to the National Reserve of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra. According to information reported by Glavcom, citing TSN, a large fire broke out at the UNESCO World Heritage site after a direct hit ignited the roof of the Dormition Cathedral. A cross and a detached church dome were found lying in the middle of the road at the scene. Amid the blaze, a rainbow appeared in the sky above the Lavra, a natural phenomenon captured against the backdrop of destruction.
Aftermath of the Devastating Attack
The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation officially claimed the strike achieved its objectives, stating that all designated targets were successfully hit. 'The goals of the strike were reached,' the ministry noted. Residential buildings in Kyiv were also hit during the assault. In the Pechersk district, a five-story apartment building was struck, while in the Obolon district, a residential building suffered damage between the third and fourth floors. Additionally, a nine-story residential building was hit in the Solomianskyi district.
The Russian attack also ignited a fire at the National Oleksandr Dovzhenko Film Studio. This strike destroyed Ukraine's largest and oldest costume collection, which housed approximately 100,000 costumes and three million items of various clothing. Other buildings and facilities on the film studio grounds were also damaged. However, relics and liturgical items from the Lavra were successfully evacuated before the fire spread.
'A cross, a dome, and a rainbow. I have never seen destruction like this. A church dome is just lying in the middle of the road. They are extinguishing the fire here, but behind us, we can still see a rainbow,' reported a TSN correspondent, describing the scale of the devastation caused by the shelling.
The destructive consequences of this attack continue to be discussed in society, raising concerns about the safety of cultural heritage sites and residential neighborhoods in Kyiv.
