Russia broke through the most powerful air defense of Ukraine: how it happened during the attack on Kyiv

Ukrainian air defense breached by a Russian strike
Наступ російських військ став серйозним викликом для української протиповітряної системи під час атаки на столицю.

On the night of September 7, the Russian terrorist army launched an attack on Kyiv, breaking through the strongest defense zone of the Ukrainian air defense system. This area, where government buildings are located, was considered the most protected in the country. According to The New York Times, the defense measures were breached during the largest drone attack in the entire war.

"On Sunday night, the defense measures were breached when Russia launched the largest drone attack in the history of the war, damaging a government building for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale invasion," the publication states.

The Air Force reported that nine missiles and over 60 drones bypassed the air defense measures, and a government facility was hit. Russia launched 805 strike drones as well as 17 cruise and ballistic missiles.

Victims of the Russian attack

As a result of this night, three people died. Among them were 32-year-old Viktoria Grebenyuk and her two-month-old son Roman. Their house received a direct hit and no one survived.

The Russian attack on Kyiv elicited a massive reaction and caused human casualties. The capture of the most protected area in the city undermines the peace and security of the capital's residents.
