Rwanda and Congo Sign Peace Agreement with US Mediation

Peace Agreement between Rwanda and Congo
Руanda та Конго уклали угоду про мир за посередництвом США.

A peace agreement was signed in Washington between Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo with the participation of US representative Marco Rubio. According to the agreement, Rwandan troops are to be withdrawn from eastern Congo within 90 days until 2024. This decision aims to attract foreign investments in the mineral-rich coal region and strengthen economic integration between the two countries.

Tensions between Congo and Rwanda have escalated amid the resurgence of rebels in January of this year. The M23 group captured significant territories and triggered a UN warning of a possible escalation of conflict in the region, leading to US mediation efforts and the signing of a peace agreement between the parties.

«Today, violence and destruction are coming to an end, and the entire region is starting a new chapter of hope,» he said.

The agreement between Rwanda and Congo on the withdrawal of Rwandan troops from Congo and the strengthening of economic cooperation is a step towards stability and peace in the region and may also facilitate the attraction of foreign investments and the development of both countries.
