In Kyiv, after the night attack, the subway stations «Chernihivska» and «Lisova» were temporarily closed. The restoration of movement may take time, and additional buses will not fully compensate for the interruptions on the red line. For passengers on this route, a temporary bus No. 1-M is already operating, and information regarding the operation of the subway is being reported by Tribun.

Alexander Grechko, co-founder of the public organization «Passengers of Kyiv», suggested in the «Morning.LIVE» broadcast that the restrictions on the red line may last for most of October 19. In his opinion, a few additional buses will not be enough to fully resolve the transportation issue.

Why the movement on the red subway line in Kyiv was restricted on October 19

On the night of October 19, Russian troops attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles. As a result of the strike, the ground subway station, tracks, and cable network were damaged. According to the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, the running and contact tracks near the station were damaged.

In the morning, trains were running between the stations «Akademmistetsko» and «Darnytsia». The «Chernihivska» and «Lisova» stations were temporarily closed for entry and exit. Repair crews are working on the damaged section, but the subway has not yet announced the timeframe for restoring full movement. After previous attacks, the transport routes in the capital were also changed.

What buses were added instead of the subway

The Kyiv City State Administration has strengthened ground transportation. The following were added to route No. 1-M:

  • three buses between the stations «Lisova» and «Darnytsia»;

  • 12 buses between the stations «Lisova» and «Palats Sportu».

Two more buses are expected to operate on route No. 118. In total, the city has deployed 17 additional vehicles.

Alexander Grechko believes that this is not enough to completely replace the subway. The restrictions create additional pressure on ground transport used by residents of the Lisovyi massif and passengers of the closed stations. At the same time, the majority of the red line continues to operate – the disruptions concern two stations.

Subway specialists are repairing the tracks and networks, and information regarding the restoration of movement along the entire line will be announced later. Russian attacks have previously damaged the capital’s transport infrastructure: it was previously reported about damage to the metro and transport in Kyiv.
