Today, a press briefing was held at the Ukrainian Crisis Media Center by the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the German Bundestag, Norbert Röttgen.

“We see a gross violation of international law, particularly regarding the annexation of Crimea. The goal of Putin's aggression is undoubtedly to prevent Ukraine from becoming a successful European country. We wish for Ukraine to develop with the help of the IMF, EU, and the USA. But it is the Ukrainian people who will be responsible for their success,” said Röttgen. The politician believes that despite the support from the global community, everything depends on Ukraine, and the European community is ready to provide assistance, but support also depends on the civic stance of EU countries.

“Now the Ukrainian people have shown that they have earned great respect. We have repeatedly expressed our respect for what the Ukrainians have achieved. The people on Maidan fought and continue to fight for European values. Therefore, such people deserve solidarity and support. We hope that we can continue working together to build a European country with a market economy,” Röttgen concluded.

The politician also noted that 'the biggest blow to the Russian Federation was not the EU sanctions, but that Putin has destroyed Russia's authority in the eyes of international investors.'

“Moreover, the sanctions imposed by the West confirm that we are ready to stand up for Ukraine and overcome the challenges from Russia together.”
