According to Главком: The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has officially designated a car explosion in Odessa's Kyiv district on February 16, 2026, as a terrorist act. The blast occurred at 07:49 near a residential building on Akademika Korolova Street. The driver of the vehicle was injured in the explosion and subsequently hospitalized. Preliminary reports indicate the victim is 56 years old.
According to the SBU, a criminal investigation has been initiated under Article 258 of the Ukrainian Criminal Code, which pertains to terrorist acts. The investigation is being conducted jointly with the National Police. This incident follows another car explosion in the same Odessa district on February 6, which resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man. These attacks occur against a backdrop of ongoing conflict and hybrid warfare tactics targeting Ukrainian cities.
