Ukrainian Security Service Detains School Deputy Principal for Aiding Russian Strikes in Donetsk Region
School Administrator Arrested for Espionage in Donetsk
According to Главком: The Ukrainian Security Service's (SBU) military counterintelligence unit has arrested a school deputy principal in the Donetsk region on suspicion of state treason. The suspect is accused of gathering intelligence for Russian special services and adjusting enemy strikes on Ukrainian territory. According to the investigation, the detainee acted in the interests of the occupying forces by providing them with critical information on Ukrainian military positions.
The individual's collaboration with Russian intelligence began during a trip to Belarus at the start of the full-scale invasion. In the summer of last year, Russia's FSB activated the contact and tasked her with tracking the locations of Ukrainian Defense Forces in a frontline city. To complete this assignment, she moved around the district center, identifying and recording the largest concentrations of Ukrainian personnel and equipment. She then relayed this intelligence to her Russian handler via a messenger app, sending both voice and text messages with precise coordinates.
Evidence Seized and Legal Charges
During searches of her residence, investigators seized the smartphone she used for gathering intelligence and maintaining contact with the FSB. SBU investigators have formally notified the suspect of the charges under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under martial law). She is currently in custody without the possibility of bail and faces a potential sentence of life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
This arrest is part of a broader pattern of counterintelligence operations. The SBU recently detained another agent of Russian military intelligence who was also adjusting Russian airstrikes against Ukrainian forces in the Pokrovsk direction. Furthermore, a separate individual was arrested for guiding a large-scale bombardment of Kharkiv, providing real-time targeting data for new Russian 'Geran-3' kamikaze drones. These cases highlight the persistent efforts of Russian special services to destabilize Ukraine from within and the SBU's ongoing campaign to root out collaborators.
The detention of the school administrator underscores the SBU's extensive efforts to identify and neutralize individuals collaborating with Russian intelligence. Such measures are critical for national security during the ongoing conflict, reflecting the state's commitment to defending its sovereignty. The activity of the counterintelligence services demonstrates constant vigilance on the frontline and a readiness to address internal threats that undermine Ukraine's defense.
This recent arrest highlights a troubling trend of espionage within the Donetsk region, as the SBU continues to uncover individuals aiding enemy operations.
