According to glavcom.ua: The Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, stated that due to the complicated international situation, the country may need nuclear weapons. He emphasized that any decisions regarding the development of nuclear technologies require careful discussion.

“If the situation in the world continues to develop as it is now, these restrictions will need to be lifted. In the future, we will also need nuclear technologies for national defense,” Silveira noted.

Brazil already has all the conditions for developing nuclear technologies for military purposes, possessing a complete nuclear fuel cycle technology and vast reserves of uranium. According to the minister, this step will become necessary in the long term.

“The world is moving towards the sad necessity of developing defensive tools,” he remarked.

It is worth recalling that in the past, Brazil already developed nuclear weapons from 1964 to 1985, but in 1990, the country abandoned this program. Now, the possibility of returning to nuclear technologies is being discussed in the context of changes in international politics.

Evaluation of the nuclear potential of Russia and China

According to the Pentagon, the development of Russia's nuclear arsenal did not stop even during the war with Ukraine. At the same time, China is actively increasing its nuclear capabilities, adding nearly as many weapons to its arsenal in the last two years as Great Britain.

It is predicted that in the event of a global nuclear war, billions of people may face starvation for eight years after the conflict.

After the Brazilian minister's statement about the possibility of developing nuclear weapons in the country, it becomes clear that the global situation in the field of nuclear technologies is becoming increasingly tense. The potential consequences of such actions for international security and stability in the world should be taken into account.
