The Cause of Stepan Giga's Passing

According to Главком: The family of Ukrainian singer Stepan Giga has disclosed that his death resulted from complications of diabetes combined with a severe infection. He battled the illness for two and a half months, continuing to perform throughout despite being in pain. His wife, Kvitoslava Giga, explained:

“Unfortunately, as everyone knows, diabetes played a very significant, decisive role. And then there was the infection, which, sadly, his body could not overcome.” - Kvitoslava Giga

While Giga was hospitalized, his family chose not to comment publicly on his condition, though his children remained by his side in the ward. Kvitoslava noted that Stepan remained optimistic and hopeful for a positive outcome until the very end. She added:

“We hoped until the last moment that everything would be fine; we never thought it would end this way.” - Kvitoslava Giga

The Artist's Legacy

Giga left behind a number of unreleased songs that he had not finished recording, leaving only the musical arrangements. His son, Stepan Giga Jr., shared their plans:

• “We discussed what to do next, how to proceed, what needed to be done in the studio.”
• “There are many plans because there are songs that hadn't been released during his lifetime, but we are already finishing them.”

Stepan Giga was laid to rest on December 15 at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv. A spruce tree was initially planted at the gravesite, with a priest promising to plant a proper tree in the spring. Giga was a prominent figure in the Ukrainian folk and pop music scene, known for his energetic performances. His death represents a significant loss to Ukrainian culture, but his creative legacy will continue through his family's efforts and his fans' memories.

The artist, remembered for his vibrant creativity and optimism, left behind not only unpublished songs but also memories of his powerful stage presence.
