SEPS Terminates Agreement with Ukrenergo

According to Главком: The Slovak electricity transmission system operator, SEPS, is unilaterally terminating its mutual emergency assistance agreement with Ukraine's national energy company, Ukrenergo. The termination will take effect in May 2024. The move was initiated by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, who proposed the contract's unilateral cancellation.

Ukrenergo has received an official letter from SEPS announcing the termination. SEPS did not provide an explanation for its decision. Ukrenergo's press service stated that the Ukrainian company has never violated the terms of the agreement with SEPS and has always acted in a spirit of good neighborliness and respect for European law.

"The reasons for which our colleagues are canceling the agreement were left unexplained by SEPS management," - Ukrenergo press service.

Ukrenergo has rarely utilized emergency assistance from Slovakia, and only in limited volumes. The last recorded instance was in January 2024. The termination will not affect commercial electricity exchange, as imports of electricity from Slovakia to Ukraine continue without restrictions.

"The termination of the mutual emergency assistance agreement does not affect commercial exchange in any way. Electricity imports from Slovakia to Ukraine have been and continue to be carried out without any restrictions," - Ukrenergo press service.
