Словаччина скасувала угоду про екстрене постачання електроенергії в Україну: основні факти.

Emergency Electricity Supply Agreement Terminated

According to ХВИЛЯ: Slovakia's government, led by Prime Minister Robert Fico, decided on March 4 to terminate an agreement for emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine. This move follows a deterioration in relations after an ultimatum was presented to Kyiv on February 21. Fico had already announced a halt to power supplies via Facebook on February 23. This decision comes amidst ongoing regional tensions following Russia's full-scale invasion, which has severely impacted Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

No penalty sanctions will be imposed on Slovakia for this termination. The Ukrainian side, which had recently requested emergency assistance, has been refused. The last recorded flow of electricity under this emergency support framework was in January 2026. Despite the termination, Ukraine has not yet received official documentation or legal confirmation formally ending the agreement.

Current Status and Consequences

On February 23, Ukraine's grid operator Ukrenergo received a letter from its Slovak counterpart, SEPS, initiating a review of payment terms under the current contract. Prime Minister Fico stated he considers the actions of Ukraine's president to be 'malicious and harmful to Slovakia's energy security and economy.' The situation remains tense, with the potential for further escalation causing concern among European energy market observers.

The termination of this power supply agreement could have serious implications for the energy security of both nations. With Ukraine in need of additional electricity sources, Slovakia's refusal may lead to new challenges in meeting its energy demands. These developments underscore the strained relations between the two countries, which could affect regional stability and cooperation in the energy sector.
