Onufriy's and other priests' Ukrainian citizenship was terminated on July 2. The Security Service of Ukraine established that Onufriy obtained citizenship of the Russian Federation in 2002 and did not inform the authorities of Ukraine about it. It was found that besides Onufriy, Metropolitan Ionafan of Tulchin and Bishop Sergey of Ladyzhyn also have Russian passports.

For a long time, a number of hierarchs of the UOC (MP) have been deprived of Ukrainian citizenship, and this does not prevent them from living and serving the Church and the people of Ukraine. President Zelensky signed decree No. 898/2022, according to which the citizenship of 13 hierarchs of the UOC (MP) was suspended, with a message from the State Migration Service: Bishop Sergey (Anitsky Sergey Leonidovich), Metropolitan Meletiy (Yehorenko Valentin Vladimirovich).

Later, Onufriy renounced his Russian citizenship, but acknowledged that he had a Russian passport, yet considers himself a citizen of Ukraine.

In summary: Ukrainian citizenship was revoked from 13 hierarchs of the UOC (MP), 2 of whom had previously had this citizenship suspended due to obtaining Russian passports. However, now they officially recognize themselves as citizens of Ukraine again.
