According to hvylya.net: It is worth noting that the US does not provide unconditional guarantees for Taiwan's defense in the event of Chinese aggression, which is why the demands from the American leadership came as a surprise to Tokyo and Canberra. The US remains the most important arms supplier for Taiwan, considering the growing military pressure from Beijing, which seeks to assert its claims to sovereignty over the island, despite Taiwan's categorical denial of such statements.

According to Financial Times, the US Department of Defense is actively pressuring Japan and Australia to clarify their position regarding a possible armed conflict between America and China over Taiwan. Elbridge Colby, the US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Policy, initiated these negotiations.
