U.S. Diplomatic Pressure on Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: In an interview with Yuriy Romanenko, philosopher Serhiy Datsiuk shared his perspective on American diplomatic pressure directed at Ukraine. He stated that the United States has explicitly prohibited Ukraine from attacking Russian oil terminals in Novorossiysk. Datsiuk argued this restriction is tied to significant U.S. business interests in the region. He emphasized that this policy line has been maintained by successive administrations in Washington, highlighting a consistent strategic approach. This stance comes amid Ukraine's efforts to degrade Russian military logistics and economic resources.

A Diplomatic Rebuke from Washington

Datsiuk characterized the American actions as a formal diplomatic rebuke.

“What the United States did is called a demarche. This has been reported in many news outlets. A demarche is a sharp official diplomatic act, a statement, a gesture, or a direct action... a protest, a demand, a warning directed by one state against another,” Datsiuk noted.

He further added that

“if one understands it this way, then it can be argued that any action by the United States over the past year is a chain of demarches.”

The philosopher pointed out that the current situation in Ukraine is a consequence of these continuous diplomatic protests from the U.S.

Datsiuk also observed that such demarches are practically absent from U.S. policy towards Russia, where formal treaties and agreements dominate the relationship.

“This raises the question: Are the United States truly our partner?”

These remarks underscore the complexity of the Ukraine-U.S. relationship within the context of foreign policy and its impact on regional security dynamics.

Serhiy Datsiuk's comments highlight the critical need to understand the diplomatic interplay between Ukraine and the United States against the backdrop of the ongoing geopolitical conflict. The U.S. reluctance to endorse actions against Russian infrastructure may signal underlying strategic business interests that shape foreign policy decisions. This, in turn, could fuel concerns in Kyiv about the reliability of the American partnership and the prospects for continued support in the war against Russia.
