According to Главком: On March 11, Kyiv's Shevchenkivskyi District Court ruled to extend the pre-trial detention of Ukrainian Member of Parliament Nestor Shufrych until May 9. Shufrych is accused of state treason and financing the Russian National Guard (Rosgvardiya) in Crimea. The court ordered the 60-day extension of his custody, which began after his initial arrest on September 15, 2023, when he was placed in a Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detention facility.

Shufrych, a controversial political figure, was formally charged in September 2023 for alleged collaboration with former Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Volodymyr Sivkovych, who fled to Moscow in 2014. During searches of Shufrych's property, investigators reportedly discovered collections of Soviet-era medals and uniforms of the Russian armed forces.

New Charges of Financing Russian Forces

In February 2024, Shufrych faced additional charges for financing the Russian National Guard in occupied Crimea. Prosecutors allege that a company under his control paid approximately 500,000 Russian rubles over three months in 2016 to Rosgvardiya for guarding a large sanatorium in the settlement of Simeiz. This 4,500-square-meter property borders a dacha belonging to Viktor Medvedchuk, another pro-Russian Ukrainian politician. Shufrych's former aide, Vyacheslav Cherepnya, was also charged in a related Crimea case; after nearly a year in pre-trial detention, Cherepnya was placed under house arrest in February 2025.

Despite a bail amount set at over 33 million Ukrainian hryvnias (approximately $830,000), Shufrych has been unable to post it due to sanctions. Attempts to deposit partial sums of 20,200 and 200 hryvnias on January 14 and 16, 2025, respectively, were blocked by PrivatBank. The bank cited a presidential decree from January 19, 2025, which imposes a ten-year sanctions regime on Shufrych, effectively freezing his financial transactions. This case highlights the complex interplay between Ukraine's legal system and national security measures during wartime.
