Sumy Region to Shorten Curfew Starting July 1

Sumy region shortens curfew from July 1
У Сумській області з 1 липня скоротять тривалість комендантської години.

Curfew Hours Reduced in Sumy Region

According to Главком: Starting July 1, 2026, and lasting through September 15, 2026, the curfew in Sumy Region will be shortened. The decision was made by the Regional Defense Council in coordination with military command and relevant authorities. Under the new schedule, the curfew will run from midnight to 4:00 AM, giving farmers an extra hour to carry out fieldwork during the busy season.

The push to reduce curfew hours came from local agricultural workers who need more time in the fields. Oleh Hryhorov commented:

“Farmers across the region approached us with this request. That extra early-morning hour is vital during the peak of seasonal work, when daylight, weather conditions, and the ability to get into the fields on time all matter.” - Oleh Hryhorov

Security and Curfew Conditions

It is important to note that this change applies only where the operational situation allows. In frontline communities, curfew length may still vary depending on conditions. Hryhorov also stressed that “security remains the top priority.”

Separately, on April 1, 2026, an updated curfew and blackout regime was introduced in Mykolaiv Region. Coastal communities there continue to face stricter restrictions.

The situation in Sumy Region remains tense. Occupying forces have taken control of several settlements near the border, and Russian troops continue to strike border areas, including the Yampil community. Hryhorov noted:

“Where the security situation allows, we have to make practical decisions-for the people, communities, and the region’s work.” - Oleh Hryhorov

Overall, all attempts by the occupiers to push deeper into Ukrainian territory are being thwarted in a timely manner. Russian forces are using aviation to attack civilian infrastructure in Sumy Region, underscoring the importance of safety for local residents.

Shortening the curfew in Sumy Region is a key step to support the agricultural sector during wartime, as it enables essential fieldwork during a critical period. At the same time, the decision reflects the authorities’ effort to strike a balance between the needs of the population and the security situation in the region, which remains strained due to ongoing aggression.
