According to glavcom.ua: The silver medalist of the 2024 Russian championships in heptathlon, Sofia Yakushina, announced that she has received Turkish citizenship. This was reported by 'Gavin'.
"Yes, such an opportunity appeared, and I seized it. I decided that for me and my career, which is not eternal and not very long for athletes, this is the right and necessary decision. But I still retain my Russian citizenship. My season ended with the NCAA championship in June in Oregon. Now I am on vacation. The school semester is starting soon, and we will begin preparing for the next season," said Yakushina.
Sofia Yakushina is 19 years old. At the end of 2024, she went to study in America.
Yakushina hopes to start representing Turkey at the international level as early as 2026.
Gold medal at the fencing world championship for Yana Yegoryan
Recall that the notorious Russian fencer Yana Yegoryan won the gold medal at the fencing world championship.
On Sunday, July 27, Yegoryan became the winner of the world championship in Tbilisi. In the final, the Russian defeated Polish fencer Zuzanna Czeslar with a score of 15:11.
