Statement by Oleksandr Klymenko on Corruption in Ukraine

Klymenko also noted that SAP still does not have the authority to independently initiate proceedings against members of parliament, which limits the prosecutor's office's ability to combat corruption offenses. He emphasized the need to create international investigative groups with other jurisdictions for effective evidence collection, particularly in the Midas case.

'We have a need to create international investigative groups with other jurisdictions to obtain evidence as quickly and conveniently as possible in this specific criminal proceeding and to exchange information with prosecutors from other jurisdictions,' - noted Oleksandr Klymenko.

Corruption Risks in Defense Procurement

The head of SAP also pointed out the corruption risks in defense procurement, particularly the possible kickbacks that affect the results of tenders. He stressed the importance of administrative decisions and changes in approaches to defense procurement for a systematic resolution of the corruption problem in this area.

'Corruption in Ukraine is not decreasing. It remains at the same level. Or if we talk about top corruption, it is even growing. The state demonstrates that it lacks the political will to combat this corruption properly,' - emphasized Oleksandr Klymenko.
