Israeli Defense Minister’s Statement

According to Главком: Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump insisted on treating the fronts in Lebanon and Iran as a single issue during ceasefire negotiations. Katz expressed regret over this approach, as Israel had sought to keep these conflicts separate. According to Katz, Lebanon further complicated communications between the U.S. and Iran by demanding a full withdrawal of Israeli forces from its territory before any peace agreement with Washington could be signed.

Regional Situation

Israel refuses to leave southern Lebanon until the complete disarmament of the Hezbollah group is achieved. Katz emphasized that Israel has no territorial ambitions in Lebanon. Reports indicate that Washington supports Israel’s prolonged military presence in the area. Destruction statistics show that:

  • the Israeli military has destroyed 100% of villages along the western border;
  • 73% of settlements in other areas have been destroyed;

As a result of the fighting, at least 200,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in southern Lebanon.

Katz also stated that Israel would resume its war against Iran if Trump declares diplomatic talks have collapsed or if Tehran launches a new attack. He highlighted a strict policy of immediate retaliatory strikes on the Dahieh district in Beirut, part of a broader strategy to deter Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, during an emotionally charged phone call, Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu 'crazy.' Trump’s anger stemmed from Israel’s ongoing military operations in Lebanon, which he said were complicating Washington’s efforts to reach a deal with Iran. Trump remarked that without his support, Netanyahu would be in prison, and added that Tel Aviv’s actions were turning the global community against Israel.

The phone conversation revealed deep strategic disagreements over how to deal with Tehran, with the U.S. favoring a diplomatic approach while Israel pushes for a return to military force.

These events underscore the complexity of Middle Eastern security, where Israeli-Iranian tensions remain high and U.S. influence over these conflicts continues to be significant. Israel’s readiness to use force clashes with Washington’s preference for diplomacy, a rift that could have major implications not only for bilateral relations but also for regional stability.

As tensions escalate, Israel's military strategy appears to be evolving. Following the recent deaths of five soldiers, the nation has shifted to a more defensive posture, which may further complicate the ongoing conflicts in the region.
