The Complex Electoral Challenge Facing Trump

According to ХВИЛЯ: During an interview with political scientist Yuriy Romanenko, analyst Tigran Avakyan outlined the difficult electoral position of U.S. President Donald Trump, linking it to protracted military conflicts. Avakyan noted that public support for Trump's foreign policy is limited, and that securing geopolitical wins is crucial for his re-election bid. This analysis comes as foreign policy often plays a decisive role in American presidential campaigns.

Tigran Avakyan pointed out that the core of Trump's base supporting military action consists primarily of evangelical Christians, who make up 23% of voters.

“Given the serious divisions in American society... Trump was elected by a specific electorate. Let's look at this analytically. Which part of Trump's electorate currently supports war? It's evangelical Christians. That's 23% of voters,” he stated.

Trump's Problems and Challenges

The analyst stressed that for a successful re-election, Trump must address the discontent of a significant portion of the population that opposes his policies.

“Is it possible to govern the United States and get re-elected relying on 23%, or okay, 30% of voters? This is a global problem. A huge part of the population is dissatisfied with what has happened,” said Avakyan.

To shift this dynamic, Avakyan argues Trump needs to achieve two major victories:

  • A victory regarding Iran by November
  • A victory regarding Ukraine

However, he expressed doubts about the feasibility of these plans, stating he currently sees no clear path to such outcomes. “We see that Russia has completely stalled. How he will proceed with Iran is unclear,” Tigran Avakyan concluded.

This situation underscores the critical importance of foreign policy in the context of the upcoming U.S. election. For Trump as a candidate, it is vital not only to maintain his core supporters but also to find ways to appeal to new voters who may be dissatisfied with his agenda. The complexity highlights how overseas military engagements can significantly impact domestic politics and voter sentiment.

As Trump's foreign policy continues to face scrutiny, the lack of a clear strategy regarding Iran could significantly impact his electoral prospects. Recent analyses highlight that without effective diplomatic maneuvers, he risks alienating key voter segments.
