Statement from Poland’s Prime Minister

According to 5 канал: Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has weighed in on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s recent initiatives aimed at improving bilateral relations. On X, Tusk said he views Zelenskyy’s words and decisions

“with satisfaction and hope,”

stressing that mutual respect and honesty are essential in the relationship between Ukraine and Poland. He also reaffirmed Poland’s readiness to engage in a serious and friendly dialogue on matters that unite both nations, as well as those that currently divide them.

Historical Dialogue and Emerging Challenges

Both countries are preparing new steps in the realm of historical dialogue, including measures related to access to archives and the conduct of search and exhumation operations. These efforts are key to restoring historical memory and improving ties between the two peoples. Poland’s Defense Minister, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, recently visited the Volyn region, where he took part in a ceremony honoring Poles who died during World War II. During his visit, he also attended a church service in the town of Olyka, near Lutsk.

At the same time, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has published what it claims are archival documents concerning the Volyn tragedy. The Kremlin has launched an information campaign through its state-controlled media, aiming to artificially inflame historical disputes between Ukraine and Poland. In response to these provocations, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed the organizers of paid anti-Ukrainian rallies in Poland, signaling increased efforts to protect Ukraine’s national interests.

Overall, the current situation reflects a complex but crucial process of forging a new phase of cooperation between Ukraine and Poland, amid challenges posed by external actors. Continued support for mutual initiatives and dialogue at the leadership level could help strengthen bilateral relations and reduce the impact of disruptive forces, particularly those originating from Russia.

As both nations strive for reconciliation, it's essential to understand the specific measures proposed by Zelenskyy to enhance dialogue with Poland. These five steps outlined by the Ukrainian President could play a pivotal role in shaping the future of bilateral relations and addressing historical grievances.
