Electric scooter rentals from Bolt, Vevi, and Jet.ua banned in Chernivtsi
Electric scooter rental services Bolt, Vevi, and Jet.ua will cease operations in Chernivtsi. The city council terminated the agreements with the operators following complaints from residents about scooters left in inappropriate places and violations of traffic rules by their users. The decision was supported by 22 deputies. This was reported by the Chernivtsi City Council.
Electric scooter renting in Chernivtsi: why the city canceled the agreements
The decision was made during a city council session on August 10. It specifically concerns rental services operating in the Chernivtsi community rather than private scooters owned by residents.
The explanation for the project decision noted numerous appeals from residents. Complaints were related to chaotic parking of scooters on sidewalks and in public spaces, as well as users' failure to follow traffic rules.
The agreements outlined the rules for collaboration between the city and operators, as well as scooter usage within the community. Their termination means that Bolt, Vevi, and Jet.ua must halt the rental service in Chernivtsi.
Scooters from Bolt, Vevi, and Jet.ua: when they must be removed from the streets
The companies were given 14 days to remove the electric scooters from the city streets. They must also dismantle charging stations and other equipment used for rental services.
If the operators do not comply with the requirement within the specified time, the scooters will be moved to a temporary storage site. The city council did not specify further details on how they will be handled.
Prior to the council's decision, three electric scooter rental operators were active in Chernivtsi. After the 14-day period ends, residents and visitors will not be able to rent transportation through these services unless the companies challenge the decision or the city offers a new format for collaboration.
It is worth noting that Chernivtsi is planning to review the fare for city bus rides.
