New Residential District Rises in Hostomel

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: Hostomel, a town in the Kyiv region that experienced intense hostilities in the early months of the war, is now rebuilding. Construction is underway on a new residential complex on Proskurivska Street, where five apartment buildings were destroyed during combat in 2022. These buildings had housed 272 families before the full-scale invasion.

The development will consist of six seven-story residential buildings with 360 apartments. The first two phases involve constructing two buildings with 144 apartments, which will be offered first to families who lost their homes as a result of the hostilities.

Infrastructure and Community Facilities

In addition to housing, the complex will feature a dual-purpose underground shelter with an area exceeding 2,100 square meters, designed to accommodate more than 1,200 people at a time. During air-raid warnings, it will serve as a protective space for residents, and in peacetime, it will function as a sports complex.

Construction work already underway includes several tasks:

  • Erecting vertical structures for the first floor of building No. 2;
  • Waterproofing the base of the building;
  • Installing the first-floor ceiling structure for building No. 3;
  • Bricklaying for the basement level;
  • Preparing the foundation base for the shelter.
According to Ukraine's Minister for Restoration, Infrastructure and Transport, Mykola Kalashnyk: "For people, recovery starts with the ability to return home. That is why projects like the Hostomel reconstruction are a priority for us. We are not just building new houses in place of destroyed ones - we are creating a modern, safe residential environment with quality infrastructure. Our goal is to give families housing that meets today's standards of safety, energy efficiency, and comfort."

The construction of a new residential quarter in Hostomel represents a major milestone in the recovery of a region that suffered heavy wartime losses. Providing modern homes for affected families not only restores shelter but also improves security and living standards. This project is part of a broader Ukrainian strategy to rebuild infrastructure and social services for people affected by the conflict. Such initiatives help stabilize the country and strengthen the prospect of a rapid return to peaceful life.
